State election October 2024 candidate survey
State election candidates are seeking your vote at the October election, with early voting commencing 14 October and election day on 26 October 2024. At least 50 candidates have nominated across the 11 electorates covering the City of Gold Coast.
The decisions made by our elected Members of Parliament have a huge influence on how residents work, live, and play and the legacy left to future generations. The Community Alliance Assoc considers it is essential that voters have the opportunity to gain deeper insights into the people who seek to represent them.
To assist voters with those insights we sent proforma questionnaires to all known candidates on 24 September 2024.
Our questionnaire focuses on better management of city growth, affordable housing, better public transport for the whole of the city not just the coastal strip, privatisation of public land and assets, integrity in government, environmental protection, and importantly how the candidate proposes to deliver meaningful community engagement that places residents at the centre of their decision-making and voting in parliament.
We are publishing candidate responses to our questionnaire verbatim on this page so that voters can judge for themselves how the candidates measure up in their respective electorates.
The questionnaire responses appear below for each electorate.

In our separate summary table below we note which candidates did not respond as we consider this also tells you something about the people seeking your vote.
Summary of responses received/not received
We sincerely thank the 11 candidates who did respond by our deadline of 10 October 2024 (22% of candidates). This group included 7 Greens candidates, 1 Independent, and 1 candidate from each of the following parties – One Nation, Legalise Cannabis Queensland, and Libertarian Party Queensland. Your engagement and transparency on where you or your party stand is very much appreciated.
With great disappointment we also note that 39 candidates (78% of candidates) did not respond. No responses were received from the Liberal National Party, the Labor Party, or Family First Party. Regrettably this nil response group includes all 10 sitting members of parliament who are seeking re-election (9 LNP candidates and 1 Labor candidate). Note: Hon Michael Hart, MP, sitting Member for Burleigh, is retiring at this election
Our article on “Trust and voting” points out how important transparency is to building trust in the candidates who seek your vote. This includes a willingness to “go on the record” in response to reasonable questions from the community. The lack of transparency from those candidates who have not responded is therefore concerning.
We encourage you to share a link to this page and our facebook page with friends and neighbours within the city.

Survey Responses
To read responses click Read next to the candidates’ names in the following table. Surveys were sent to all candidates with a completion deadline of 10 October. Please note that this information is based on the candidate list known to us at 24 September 2024. Since that date there may have been a small number of last-minute candidate nominations which we were unable to cover with our survey.
A late response to our candidates’ survey from the State Director of the LNP can be viewed here. While this response has not used our requested pro-forma questionnaire and does not directly address most of our specific questions, it does provide higher level information across our key issue headings. We thank the LNP for this information.
